Introducing Our Four Purpose Dragons 🐲✨

Our Four Purpose Dragons 🐉

Bringing the Curriculum for Wales to life

At our school, the Curriculum for Wales underpins everything we do. It supports our children to develop not only academically, but also as confident individuals and responsible members of society. To help our learners understand and live out the four purposes of the curriculum, we use our Four Purpose Dragons: Splat, Ernest, Bumble and Welby.

Each dragon represents one of the four purposes of the Curriculum for Wales and helps make learning meaningful, memorable and purposeful. The dragons are woven throughout school life – in lessons, assemblies, wellbeing work and celebrations – giving everyone a shared language for learning, behaviour and personal growth.

🟣 Splat – Creative, Enterprising Contributors

Splat helps us become creative, enterprising contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work. He encourages curiosity, imagination and teamwork, helping children to generate ideas, solve problems and take creative risks. With Splat, learners develop confidence, resilience and the ability to turn ideas into action.

🟢 Earnest – Ambitious, Capable Learners

Ernest represents ambitious, capable learners who are eager to learn and ready for the future. He promotes perseverance, independence and high expectations, encouraging children to challenge themselves and take pride in their progress. Ernest reminds us that effort, reflection and determination help us to achieve our goals.

🟡 Bumble – Ethical, Informed Citizens

Bumble supports us to become ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the wider world. She helps children understand fairness, respect and responsibility, encouraging them to care for others, value diversity and protect the environment. Bumble reminds us that our choices matter and that we all have a role to play in our community and beyond.

🔴 Welby – Healthy, Confident Individuals

Welby helps us grow as healthy, confident individuals. He encourages positive physical and emotional wellbeing, reminding children to stay active, talk about their feelings and make safe, healthy choices. Welby supports the development of resilience, self-belief and confidence so that learners feel happy, secure and ready to learn
